Hilda Nicole Soko is a holder of a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree obtained from the University of Malawi in 2010. She also holds a Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law obtained from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2012 and a Master of Laws (LLM) Commercial Law with distinction obtained from the University of Malawi in 2019. She was admitted to practice law without conditions before the Supreme Court of Appeal, the High Court and all Subordinate Courts in Malawi on May 17, 2011.
She has 12 years of experience in both civil and criminal litigation. She has further undertaken consultancy work with the various institutions in Malawi on law reform, non-litigation work and transactional work.
Hilda was the Lead Counsel in the Nsundwe case which challenged the inaction on the part of duty bearers to conduct prompt, proper, professional and effective investigations on complaints of violence against women and girls including rape, defilement and sexual assault.
Hilda has conducted a consultancy on the development of a Shadow Report, on behalf of civil society organisations in Malawi, which was submitted to the Committee on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW- Committee)
