Khumbo is a diligent, passionate, astute and highly organized trial lawyer with over 13 years post qualification experience. His practice has spanned several areas of the law including criminal law, commercial law, employment law, constitutional and administrative law, electoral law, insurance law and public procurement law. Khumbo regularly appears in the Supreme Court of Appeal, the High Court of Malawi, Arbitral tribunals and in other specialized administrative tribunals such as the Review Committee of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA). His strength lies in his sharp ability to diagnose issues that call for resolution, his formulation of an effective resolution strategy, surgical organization of his case and in effective presentation. Khumbo thrives whether he is acting alone or as a part of a team and has vast experience in organizing and leading multi-member litigation teams. One of the most high profile case in which he has appeared is the presidential elections case that led to the nullification of the 2019 presidential elections.

Khumbo has also worked as a consultant in assignments requiring deep analytical skills. These assignments have included consulting with constitutional Parliamentary Committees carrying out investigation work, policy and legal analysis and legislative lobbying.

Khumbo has also supported corporate clients in their restructuring and re-organization so as to manage the resultant legal risks and has represented and advised multinationals in high value transactions.

Khumbo is an effective presenter and has presented papers at national and international seminars, workshops and conferences. Khumbo holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree which he obtained from the University of Malawi’s Law School as well as a Master of Laws Degree in International Economic Law (with distinction) obtained from the University of Warwick in Coventry England in 2014. He is a respected voice in the legal profession having previously served as the Chairman of the Malawi Law Society (2017 – 2018.) He has also previously served as a member of the Special Law Commission reviewing the Malawi Citizenship Act. He currently serves as a Board Member of the National Economic Empowerment Fund and is the Chairman of the Honors Sub-Committee of the Malawi Law Society.
